About Garden of Recovery

A practical guide to understanding cancer through systems oncology, drug repurposing, nutraceuticals and comprehensive care.

The Purpose of the Book

Garden of Recovery was created to help patients and families better understand the increasingly complex world of cancer biology and treatment.

The book brings together established cancer care, systems oncology, precision diagnostics, drug repurposing, nutraceuticals and supportive care in one patient-focused framework.

About the Author

Homer Lim, MD

Dr. Homer Lim is a physician from the Philippines whose work has focused on developing a broader, systems-based approach to cancer care. His clinical experience has led him to look beyond cancer as a disease of a single organ or pathway. He is particularly interested in how cancer metabolism, inflammation, immune function, the tumor microenvironment, and cellular signaling interact—and how these systems may be addressed alongside conventional cancer treatment.

Over the years, Dr. Lim has explored the clinical application of drug repurposing, intravenous therapies, nutraceuticals, metabolic interventions, and supportive care, with an emphasis on integrating emerging scientific evidence with practical patient care. His approach is not to replace conventional oncology, but to ask a broader question:

“How can we support the whole patient while treating the cancer?”

Garden of Recovery grew out of this perspective. The book brings together the science of systems oncology, precision medicine, drug repurposing, nutraceuticals, nutrition, lifestyle, and supportive care in language intended to be accessible to patients and families. Dr. Lim believes that patients should have access to understandable information about their disease and the rapidly evolving science surrounding cancer treatment—while recognizing the importance of evidence, safety, medical supervision, and individualized decision-making.

A Different Way of Looking at Cancer Rather than presenting a single treatment or protocol, Dr. Lim encourages patients to understand how their cancer works, what conventional treatments are designed to accomplish, and where emerging approaches may fit into an individualized treatment strategy. Garden of Recovery is his effort to make that broader perspective accessible to people navigating one of the most difficult journeys in medicine.

The book is intended to help patients and families understand cancer biology, treatment options and the rapidly developing landscape of modern and emerging oncology.

A Patient-Centered Approach

Cancer care involves more than treating a tumor. Patients may need to understand diagnosis, treatment, treatment response, nutrition, supportive care and the changing biology of their disease.

Garden of Recovery aims to provide a framework that helps readers connect these different aspects while encouraging informed discussion with their healthcare team.
